Distance

Wondering how far it is between cities?

To determine the distance between two significant cities of the world, the method (described below) uses data from the US Census Bureau and a supplementary list of cities around the world to find the latitude and longitude of two places, and then calculates the distance between them (as the crow flies).

It presents that information in miles, kilometers and nautical miles.

As an example, the distance between Los Angeles and Buenos Aires is: (6101 miles) (9818 kilometers) (5302 nautical miles)

NOTE: 1 mile (statue) or (land) = 5,280 feet, and/or 1.609.344 kilometers. A nautical mile (used almost exclusively in navigation) is a unit of distance based on the length of one minute of arc taken along a great circle.

Because the Earth is not a perfect sphere, various values have been assigned to the nautical mile. The international value is 1852 meters (6076.1 ft.).
